WellStop

What we do

WellStop is an NGO working to prevent the next incident of sexual abuse. We do this primarily through services for people who have engaged in harmful or concerning sexual behaviour as well as education and support for their family/whanau.

Services include assessment, one-to-one therapy, family therapy, group therapy, education and social work. 

Services are provided throughout the Wellington region and the lower North Island.  Our Wellington region offices are based in Lower Hutt and Masterton, however we at times use offices in other parts of the region, e.g. Porirua and Kapiti Coast. Other offices are located in Palmerston North, Whanganui, Levin, New Plymouth, Taumarunui, Hawera, Napier and Gisborne and Wairoa. We provide outreach services to many smaller communities in this region. 

We work with children aged 4-12, young people aged 13-18, and with adults. Referrals can come from statutory agencies such as Oranga Tamariki (Ministry for Children) or Corrections, or from the community (such as Children’s Teams, schools, whanau, health/mental health professionals). WellStop operates Sexual Harm Crisis Support Services in the areas of Taranaki/Ruapehu/Rangitikei and Wairoa. We also have specialist programmes for clients with an intellectual disability. Currently we are running Prevention Programs ( Mates and Dates ) in the regions of Taranaki/Central/Hawkes Bay and Gisborne.

In Taranaki and Gisborne we also provide services to people who have been affected by sexual abuse. In other regions we provide ACC services to our primary clients and members of their family/whanau. ​
