Te Whare Nukunoa Wellington Homeless Women's TrustWhat we doTe Whare Nukunoa Wellington Homeless Women’s Trust was established in 2013 as a Charitable Trust providing transitional housing for homeless women within the greater Wellington region. The service has 14 rooms with fulltime qualified and support staff operating 7 days a week and offers up to 3 months accommodation for women ranging from 18+ years. We work collaboratively with other key providers to increase opportunities for women to find a place they, ‘can call home’.
These women are in vulnerable positions and have nowhere to call home. They come to us needing hands-on support and a safe environment to rebuild their lives. We provide our women with up to three months temporary accommodation while they get back on their feet and navigate the complex systems within our society. Most women experience homelessness due to domestic or sexual abuse. Women’s homelessness is often hidden - staying with a violent partner because she can’t afford to leave; couch-surfing from one relative to another; or living in unhygienic and unsafe buildings and/ or over-crowded conditions, or cars. The Wellington Homeless Women’s Trust works in partnership with a variety of social services to provide the necessary support to move women on through the three month programme.
