The Road Forward

What we do

The Road Forward is a charitable trust, formed on 10th August 2015 providing free peer support services to adult survivors who have experienced sexual harm.

What is peer support?
Peer support focuses on creating meaningful relationships that will sustain recovery, e.g. reconnection with others, personal achievement, inclusion in the community. Peer Support instils hope by being with someone who has been there and ‘through it’. Peer support is not about ‘fixing things’ but building on your existing strengths.

Our Free services include:
  • One to One peer support
  • Socialisation groups
  • Educational groups
  • Weekly wellness groups
  • Advocacy
  • Whanau Support

Our mission (Whakatakanga) is to promote early disclosure by victims of sexual harm, to support and empower survivors on their recovery processes.
  • To provide education on preventing sexual abuse and sexual violence.
  • To promote early disclosure by victims of sexual abuse and sexual violence.
  • To support and empower survivors in their recovery process by providing community based social services and other resources to those survivors; their whanau and the general public.
  • To liaise and utilise resources from other groups with similar aims and other education and training agencies to meet the needs of survivors of sexual abuse and sexual violence.
  • To further the above purposes, to create and maintain a resource library and provide information to those who require it.
  • To act as an agent of personal advocacy for survivors of sexual abuse and sexual violence.
  • To provide support for the partners of survivors of sexual abuse and sexual violence.
