Atareira

What we do

Atareira is the Wellington Branch of Supporting Families in Mental Illness, NZ.

Atareira provides support to the families and whanau who care for people with mental health and addictions.

They provide two free and confidential services.
Family/Whānau Support Service 
  • Provides information, education, support, and advocacy to the families and wider whānau of people who experience mental health and addiction issues.
  • Supports whānau throughout the Wellington Region, including the Kapiti Coast, Hutt Valley and Wainuiomata, face to face or over the phone
  • Supports Children, Maori and Pasifika whānau
  • Family/whānau support groups
Easy Access Housing 
  • Provides transitional community-based housing for people with mental health or addiction issues which have contributed to them becoming homeless
  • Assists residents with personalised Housing Action Plans and in exploring opportunities for personal and professional growth
  • Assists residents to maintain connections with clinical and community supports
  • Provides one four-bedroom women’s home and four four-bedroom homes for men in Wellington. We also have 10 whanau homes throughout the Wellington region
