Wellington Somali Council

What we do

The Wellington Somali Council is committed to serving the needs of the community and providing advocacy on an individual and community basis.

We also raise awareness of community needs and issues by building positive relationships and a climate of understanding.

Part of the work we do is to raise awareness against domestic violence. We do this through our participation in the Te Rito Family Violence Network.

One of the services we provide is called “Restorative Justice Programme” where we work with the New Zealand Police and Somali leaders to achieve culturally appropriate responses to Police involvement with Somali youth and families, and to establish trust between the Somali community and Police.

We believe that this initiative will be very helpful.
